Manners Maketh Man

Manners Maketh Man.

As per stated above, a very famous quote from the movie “Kingsman : The Secret Service”. It is a very direct statement about how manners will influence one as a person. Herbert Mead in 1934 came up with a statement that humans are talked into humanity, because we first see our self through the eyes of the others. It shows that we are not who we thought we are, but we are what people claim us to be, self praise is no praise as I would say.

The way we dress, our verbal communication, all of the non –verbal queues and physical gestures will affect the way people perceive us and how they will treat or react throughout the conversation.

The most important aspect that will influence the flow of communication of one and another is the first impression. A very simple method that works every single time is a firm handshake, the tone of voice and the choice of words as the initial conversing line. Instead of using a common words, you can try to make your words more verbose but understandable. This relates to the use of “posh” or the “Queen’s English” which is mainly practiced by the Englishman. Posh itself is a simple and direct English that does not require any slangs or accent, it just need a wide range of vocabulary so that you can say the things that you wanted more specific.

A scene from the movie Gatsby
Only capable man would be able to maintain the calm demeanour in the midst of conversation, which also one of the elements that would differ from one and another, the commoners and the gentlemen. A well mannered and nurtured man would be able to understand the situation, to be able to give in to avoid unnecessary arguments, and capable of handling complaints of dissatisfaction of the other party towards him. “Patience is the virtue” as per quoted by Confucius, a famous Chinese philosopher.
In the era that we are living now, the terminology or through the urban context, the gentlemen nowadays would be referred as “the dapper”, can be easily recognised by the way they dressed.

The word dapper is an adjective which defines a man that is neat and trim in dress and appearance.  To be a dapper also means to have features that elevate respect, the elegance, romance, sexiness and mostly charm and style. One is to be seen as a hipster in a way that he doesn’t have to try to have a keen sense of style in the appropriate setup.
Being gentle is not being weak, not a form of weakness but it is an accomplishment to prove one as a voracious and capable man. These fine man and women would be able to analyze the proper way to deal with any given situations when they are confronting the people who are against them or those who have contradicting opinions. The willingness to take the onus on them when they deemed fit.
The 19th century was the spark that ignites or the beginning of the gents, as per recorded in history, the bearded man with top hats and suits, with proper manner, who would pay the bills on the dates, open the door for the ladies and treat the ladies the way they should be treated. Contradicting with the 18th century trends where man as the dominant race, would do as they please.

So here we can conclude that this way of living would cease to exist in the near future as the society is not impervious to influence. These gentlemen are hard to come by nowadays that it almost seems like they’re extinct and only exist in every girls dreams or only exist in books.
